Health Articles on Drugs

Health articles on drugs are featured on this page, so if you have any articles about crack cocaine, methamphetamines, oxycontin or other popular drugs that people are taking now, then send them in.

On these pages, we strive not only to talk about drug abuse and addiction but to talk about recovery and rehab as well.

Drug abuse and addiction has propelled itself to epidemic proportions in this country and we are just now discovering effective ways to deal with it. With the educational campaigns over the past several years, drug addiction is being seen with less shame and more humanity. No longer is drug addiction a character flaw, but rather it is being seen as a disease.

Now, that public opinion has shifted and so many closet drug abusers have been coming out, the problem has been how to treat those with drug addiction problems. Drug rehab is something many have turned to with much success. Following the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous, many 12-step groups for drug abusers have also sprung up.

Drug rehab clinics and facilities have also gained in popularity as in recent years, they have become more flexible than the traditional hospital in-patient 6 - 12 month stay of old. Not to say that hospital in-patient drug clinics have gone away, because they have not. They are still available for those with severe cases of addiction who have tried to maintain sobriety over a long period of time and need the structure of this situation to help with a lifelong commitment to staying clean.

But, what has changed are the number of residential and outpatient drug abuse clinics that have sprung up to help those who need a less restrictive environment or have been using a shorter amount of time, who need family and friend connections to stay sober, or who are single-wage earners or single-parents or others with functional jobs.

One can see this on the TV shows that have sprung up about celebrity drug addicts who spend time in such facilities that are less restrictive (have cameras and camera operators around) and encourage interaction among patients.

The health articles on drugs on these pages will explore some of these kinds of addiction issues so that a better understanding not only about drugs themselves, but about recovery can be gleaned.

Whether its drugs you're interested in or other areas of health, we've compiled some interesting articles for your review.
